SELEUKID KINGS. Antiochos VIII Epiphanes (Grypos), 121/0-97/6 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 29 mm, 16.15 g, 12 h), Antiochia on the Orontes, 109-96. Diademed head of Antiochos VIII to right. Rev. BAΣIΛEΩΣ / ANTIOXOY - EΠIΦANOYΣ Zeus seated left, holding Nike in his right hand and scepter in his left; to left, monogram of PE above A; below throne, monogram; all within laurel wreath. SC 2309.2e. Beautifully toned and with a very old pedigree. Light marks, otherwise, good very fine.

Haughton, Sotheby's, 30 April 1958, 253, ex Naville X, 15-18 June 1925, 1426, from the Reverend Edgar Rogers Collection, acquired on 24 October 1910 from the collection of William J. Macdonnell (1842-1910), and previously acquired from Lincoln Coins on 26 February 1907.
